Officials Leave for Rome to Discuss Reinstatement of Axum Obelisk

A three person team of the National Co-ordinating Committee for the Return of the Axum Obelisk is about to leave for Rome to discuss the plan suggest by the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICSIOM), reports ENA. The technical committee comprises of a conservation and restoration expert, an archaeologist and an engineer.

Dr. Yonas Beyene, an archaeologist serving as head of the Archaeology and Anthropology Department in the heritage research and protection section of the Ministry of Information and Culture said on Friday that the committee members will take up from where other study groups had reached during talks with concerned officials of the Italian government. He said top on the agenda will be the safe removal and reinstatement of the historic obelisk.
